3. Understanding the Search Results

The search results are divided into two main sections:

Tariff Code Hierarchy

  • The system displays a detailed HS code tree structure for easy navigation. Each branch represents a product category or subcategory.
  • Locate the relevant HS code by expanding the categories. The highlighted entry in blue is the selected product code.

Tariff Rates Panel

On the right side, you will see detailed tariff rate information, including:

  • Tariff Code: Displays the selected national HS code.
  • Importer: The destination country selected in the search.
  • Exporter: The country of origin selected in the search.
  • Year: The applicable year for the displayed tariff rates.

Tariff Regimes and Rates

  • MFN (Most Favored Nation): The standard tariff rate applicable under WTO rules.
  • Other Applicable Tariff Rates: Special or additional rates that may apply, such as preferential or retaliatory tariffs. In many cases, rates under Free Trade Agreements (FTA) or Regional Trade Agreements (RTA) may be lower than MFN rates. These rates are often highlighted in bold to indicate they are more likely to be the actual applicable rates.
  • Highlighted Rate in Bold: The most likely applicable tariff rate is displayed in bold for clarity. Note: The additional tariff rates are normally in bold because these rates are added to the other applicable rates.

Example:

  • MFN: 2.5%
  • Additional-CHN-2024: +100%
  • Additional-CHN-2025-Feb: +10%

In this example, the most likely applicable rate for 2025 is 122.5% (highlighted in bold).

  • View Schedule: Shows the product’s tariff schedule timeline.

5. Last Update Information

At the bottom of the Tariff Rates Panel, the Last Update date indicates when the data was last refreshed, ensuring users are informed about the latest updates.

6. Tips for Effective Searches

  • If unsure about the HS code, use the HS Finder tool to locate the correct product code.
  • For improved accuracy, ensure both the Origin and Destination countries are correctly selected.
  • The bolded rate highlights the most probable applicable tariff rate, but reviewing additional rates is recommended for comprehensive insights.
